The Metalwork You Actually Touch
Gates get the first impression and buildings get the square footage, but railings get the hands. Every trip up the deck stairs, every walk into the office, someone is trusting that rail to hold. That's why we treat railings as structural work first and decoration second, even when the finished piece is one of the best-looking things on the property.
Residential: Decks, Porches, and Stairs
Steel railings have taken over from wood on a lot of Northern Colorado homes for good reason. They don't split, they don't need restaining every couple of summers, and slim steel balusters keep the view open instead of boxing it in. A powder-coated or properly painted finish stands up to our sun, hail, and freeze-thaw swings far better than lumber does.
A few things we pay attention to on every residential job:
- Solid anchoring. A railing is only as strong as what it's bolted to. We look at the framing or concrete underneath before we design the posts, not after.
- Code-friendly spacing and height. Most residential codes call for guards on raised decks and baluster spacing tight enough that a small child can't slip through. Local requirements vary, so we build to what your jurisdiction actually asks for.
- A grip that feels right. Handrails on stairs should be easy to grab all the way down, without sharp edges or awkward transitions at the landings.
Commercial: Stairwells, Mezzanines, and Entries
On commercial builds, railings have to pass inspection, survive heavy daily use, and fit a construction schedule that doesn't wait on anyone. We fabricate in our Greeley shop and install on site, coordinating with the general contractor so the rails go in when the stairs are ready, not two weeks later. Interior stair rails, mezzanine guards, exterior ramps, and loading-area safety rails are all regular work for our crew.
Fix It or Replace It?
If your existing railing has surface rust, a loose post, or chipped paint, it can often be repaired, re-anchored, and refinished for a fraction of the cost of new. If it's flexing under load, rusted through at the base, or was never built to code in the first place, replacement is the safer call. We'll tell you straight which one you've got.
